Workday
Software Application Engineer III · 2015 – 2019, 2022 – 2026
Tools: REST API design, MCP, Cursor, AI-assisted development, Jira, Slack, Confluence
I spent over eight years at Workday across two stints, on the accounting and billing side of Workday Financials. Most recently I focused on building APIs that AI agents and automation can rely on, and on helping other engineers get comfortable with AI-assisted development.
Financials Revenue (2022 – 2026)
- APIs that AI agents can use. I designed and built 5 monetizable REST endpoints for Billing Schedules, so internal AI agents and automation have stable, documented access to billing data.
- Faster work with MCP. I set up MCP servers that connect Cursor's AI agents to internal tools and data. That sped up API design, integration, and documentation, and I shipped AI-assisted, human-reviewed changes to production billing systems.
- AI Ambassador. I mentored and trained about 20 engineers across teams on Cursor, MCP, and agent workflows.
Financials Core (2015 – 2019)
I joined Workday right out of BYU as an Associate Software Engineer on the Financials Core team, and was promoted to Software Application Engineer II.
- Accounting Engine. I maintained the Accounting Engine that sits underneath Workday Financials.
- Customer fixes. I tracked down and fixed bugs that customers reported.
- Scrum Master. I ran the team's Scrum ceremonies, keeping planning, stand-ups, and retros on track.
